How to create a hair routine for your relaxed hair

Having healthy hair doesn’t come overnight. You need a hair routine to get your hair to a healthy state. With a hair routine you are about to get your hair in shape! Yes, see it like working out. There needs to be a plan in place in order to achieve the body or healthy weight that you want.

“GET READY TO GET YOU RELAXED HAIR IN SHAPE”

Your hair regimen needs a routine that fits your lifestyle. In this post I will share my routine, so that you can see for yourself how to build your own routine.

Wash days
Figure out on which day(s) you are going to wash your hair. Having a specific day gives you room to plan your day. For example, my wash days are on Saturdays. Even my friends know how I spend my Saturday mornings.

When it comes to washing your hair I would advise once a week or every other week.  If you are someone that washes more than two times a week, I need to tell you, stop doing that. It’s important to have a clean scalp, but too much washing will dry out your scalp.

Deep condition
With every wash it’s necessary to follow up with a deep “moisturizing” conditioner. A deep conditioner will give your hair the nutrients that it needs. I think you already know on which days I deep condition my hair. If you said on Saturday’s, then you guessed it right.

Deep conditioning my hair is my favourite step out of my whole routine. There are some many benefits when it comes to using a conditioner. Will talk about that more in another post.

“THE BESTS STEP IS DEEP CONDITIONING YOUR HAIR”

Moisturize your hair
To keep your hair moisturized in between wash days using a cream or lotion every day, will help fight the dryness. I moisturize my hair every night or every other night before I go to bed. Doing this step in the evening gives the product enough time to work its magic.

Trimming your hair
Hairdressers advise to trim your every 8 – 12 weeks (2 – 3 months) and I agree! We often neglect our dead ends, because we focus to much on having long hair. You need to get rid of the dead ends in order to have the healthy length that you want.

Holding on to a routine, when it comes to trimming your hair, will keep the dead ends away. I’m going to be honest, I have neglected with keeping up with trimming my hair. That’s why I make sure to write down the date when I trim or cut my hair and plan ahead.

“DON’T GO LONGER THAN 3 MONTH WITH TRIMMING YOUR HAIR HAIR”

Now it’s up to you to create the routine that fits your lifestyle or tweak the routine that you already have. The main goal for your routine is to upkeep your healthy hair care. So don’t stress yourself about it, because you can always adjust the routine.

I cut my relaxed hair at home to bring back healthy hair!

In my previous post I mentioned that I was dealing with breakage especially in my crown area. My hair was growing, but the length in middle was not matching up. Also I have been in a nasty funk when it comes to my hair. I wasn’t pleased with any hair style, so I knew it was time for a change. It’s time to cut my relaxed hair.

“Before the cut”

A while ago I planned to trim my hair every 8 weeks. Well even with that I was slacking and noticed I was dealing with split ends. The combination of breakage + split ends = NOT THE BUSINESS

“Reality slapped me in the face”

Before the cut I was thinking of just doing my regular trim, so that I will get rid of the split ends. But when I was done with flat ironing my hair and saw the gab in middle, reality slapped me in the face.

I knew I needed to cut my relaxed hair, because gradually trimming my hair would have slow down the health of my hair.

It maybe sound weird, but I was excited about this cut. Like I mentioned before I wasn’t feeling my hair and desperately needed a change. On Instagram I have been gushing over silk pressed hair or blunt shoulder length hair styles.

I’m in need of a change, so shoulder length hair, here I am.

Relaxed hair confession session, hair breakage!

I have a confession! After relaxing my hair in February, I stayed at family member place for 3 weeks.  During that period is when the laziness of not taking care of my hair became worse. Although I kept up with washing my every week, I failed in how I needed to take care of my hair during the week.

“Laziness is taking over”

Moisturizing my hair during the week was not on the top of my list. I will apply some moisture to my hair here and there, but it wasn’t done the proper way. Listen you can call my hair “Thirsty Thoth Diana”.

When my hair needs moisture and I neglect that, breakage comes to play. One thing that we don’t want is hair breakage, right?! Breakage is like that one friend that invites herself to the party, when she didn’t received an invite.

“Hair breakage is like an uninvited guest”

One thing that I went wrong is not being mindful of my hair after relaxing. I have added a chemical treatment to my hair and here I’m not making sure that my hair is treated the right way.

hair breakage

Now, that is not the only thing going on with my hair. I have noticed that I was in a little hair funk. Every hairstyle I wasn’t feeling it, even my high bun styles. For those who know me, know that I love me a high bun hair style.

I have been thinking of colouring my hair, but that is a no. Adding chemical on chemical will mess up your hair. So we are not doing that. I even taught of wearing wigs or even weave my hair. You know what, a weave is not a bad idea, so I’m keeping that in mind.

But yeah, as you can read, even I deal with moments that I’m not feeling my hair. Taking care of your hair is an ongoing journey. So don’t feel defeated when you are dealing with hair problems. Pick yourself back up, by going back to the basic and start over from there.

I’m here to help you with taking care of  your relaxed hair. That’s is why I’m sharing my journey with you. Let us tackle the hair problems together!

With Care,
