  2. Just found your blog and i love it!!!! I did a haul this week and bought the Creme of nature sulfate free shampoo thats been on my list forever. Can’t wait to try it out this weekend. I also plan to buy the Moisture Extreme conditioner and the Tresemme moisture rich conditioner but these products are crazy expensive in my country…i’ll still buy them though πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you for the love πŸ™‚ .. The Moisture Extreme conditioner is my #1. Ugh to expensive product .. love the product hate the price lool .

      1. Once a month…no. I plan to trim every 6 months. That’s what has always worked for me. My hair is usually in a bun with the ends tucked away so that helps keep them in good condition for a longer period.

  3. love love love love your posts!! I always use the same pre-poo oils ( olive and castor) do you reckon I switch it with other oils?
Furthermore, I have noticed dryness at my ends, they are very rough and I moisterize and seal my hair every night, but in the mornings it is still very dry. Do you have any advice or tips?

  6. Hi, thank you for the info. I use Pro Naturals Argan Oil leave in on my curly, frizzy hair and it totally tames the frizz and leaves my curls shiny and soft.

  7. I loved the Mizani MoisturFusion line! The D’Tangle is the best thing ever especially when you have unruly tangles. Congrats on making it to 20 weeks post relaxer chica! Is this your longest stretch?

Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience! Don’t forget to add your badge! You can find it here.

    1. I have been using the D’Tangle product for a view weeks now .. and I love it too. No, my longest stretch was 6 months :).

  8. I’m surprised you didn’t use a protein conditioner/treatment during your process. Your hair is flourishing so I’m not telling you to change anything, I’m just curious if you always use moisture only on your relax/texlax day?

P.S. I ended up getting the Elasta QP Olive Oil and Mango Butter Leave-in and it is EVERYTHING! I’m almost tempted to try out their moisturizer too.

    1. Hey Kim,

Normally I do a hard protein treatment one week before relaxer. This time it was two weeks before. I have used the Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor after I washed the relaxer out, but not sure about the product. I use the ORS replenishing conditioner because for me it’s the best of both world (protein & moisture)

I’m now trying out Cantu Shea Butter Argan oil leave-in treatment. When I finished that one, I will definitely buy the Elasta QP leave-in.

She should try the moisturizer, I LOVE it!!

  9. Great post, Eems! The only Mizani product I’ve tried has been the Phormula-7 Neutralizing and Chelating Shampoo.

  10. Great Wash Day post! Your ponytail roller set did a good job straightening your hair. I still need to try that one day. Do you use rubber bands or regular ouchless hair bands to create the ponytails?

  11. Girrrlllll, you just set off the product junkie in me… Where have I been as I had no clue ORS now did a sulfate free shampoo… I already have my staple which is Creme of Nature Moisture & Shine Argan shampoo but will definitely be giving this a try if it’s in my local beauty shop sometime soon…

  12. What is it about 2016 and everyone’s hair journey is not going according to plan. This time last year I was almost bra strap length and I ended up having to cut my hair to neck length into a bob in April this year and I actually wanted to cry and although it has grown I can’t get used to this short hair life… Back on my hair journey and hope to be at least arm-pit length by early next year.-strap length

  13. I too have been soo lazy when it comes to moisturiisng and sealing when I used to do it religiously. This year that is one of my goals, consistency!

    1. Thank you Idara for the encouraging words! This motivates me to continue and post great content:) Subscribe to my blog so that you will be updated whenever there is a new post!

      Love,
      Eems

  14. I read this once and I wasn’t sure I understood then I read it again to realise how deep this was. I guess being 30 and unmarried or not in a relationship is different from a man than a woman. So let me share a perspective from a man who might be 30 and single. will be brief.

In out 20s as men when we trying to figure out stuff, some tend to want to test the waters and some just wanna find love. here is the problem, because we might not be financially accomplished at the time, the girls don’t even blink at us. ow it gets worse when you passed cos you a black man from Africa, ow you ain’t hot. Black African men were not in the days of Black panther where now all of a sudden it’s cool to be African.

Times start to change and then somewhere around 25 or 26 ish the man starts life in the corporate world. starts to make it big and drive the cars. He is not now. He has a choice to make, date a white chick or date a black chick that is younger or date the black chick who never saw him as a thing in his 20s and would rather date a Suriname or an island boy who was in his 20s not financially stable. African brothers were given a bad wrap in their 20s. Now we are in our 30s and now we want to play the field maybe like we never got to do In our 20s.

Regardless, this piece by Emelia is touching. Black men single and 30 also get pressured why we are not married. There might be messages in our inbox but we realise we are in a position of power and previledge now couple with us not having an expiring date so we just chilling.

    Love this story ems

  15. Basing the scalp is a sure way to prevent irritation from the relaxer and to slow down an otherwise faster processing of the roots due to our body heat. Great job Eems

  16. This is so raw and needed! Finances are important and we need to learn more about how to handle them. Excited to read more about your journey!πŸ€—

  18. Love this! These things are so simple yet very effective. I just need to get myself to the gym again πŸ˜‚

    1. Right! Sometimes we make it too difficult for ourself. We just need to focus on the simple things and build it up from there πŸ’ͺ🏾.

  19. Hey, I know this was a couple of years ago, but what’re your thoughts on no-lye relaxer on fine hair? I have 4c hair and a multitude of products to keep it as moisturized at possible because my strands are so tight that water and moisture cant penetrate them. Along side that, as stated before, I have very fine hair. If I don’t tend to it regularly (which, sometimes I don’t because of more important commitments), they will tangle at the ends. I know for sure, before I relax my hair, I’ll have my ends trimmed by a professional for the best results. I would love to hear your honest thoughts on the matter.

    1. Hi Mirya,

Sorry for replying late. As I was reading your question, my first thought was “which products do you use and how?” Relaxing your will push you to have a strict routine, because you have altered your natural hair. I you really decided to relaxed your fine hair, 1 I would advice to let a professional do it for you. 2: make sure you spread out the retouching proces and have a new growth to relax again.

But to answer your question. I would advice you not to relax, but really look into your routine and your hair products. There is a reason why your hair is not reacting to water/moisture.

Could your share with me your current hair routine and the products that you use?
