Hair talk | Texturizer vs Relaxer

Is your natural or are you relaxed? That is one of the questions that I get often. Most people know that I relax my hair, but I still get look like ‘ohw I thought that you were Natural’.

Whether you are natural of relaxed it’s all about keeping your healthy. But for some years know the word texturizer comes by.  In my environment the texturizer is mostly used by ladies who are natural. The reason they use it is because it loosens up the curls pattern. But what I mainly noticed that they claim that their hair is still natural.

Me: uuhhmm isn’t a texturizer the same as a relaxer? Them: no because when I wash my hair it curls back. Me: uuhhmm it’s a chemical product and the conversations goes on. I remember that I had a discussion with a friend about the texturizer that got a bit heated – lool-

Relaxer | February 7!

2015.02.07 products

I finally got the time to relax my hair at 21 weeks post. I planned to relax my hair last week, but due bad timing it wasn’t possible. I also wanted to do a protein treatment one week before, but I changed my mind and will do the treatment next week. So before the relaxer it didn’t prep my hair.

This time I wasn’t really happy with my new growth. The inches of growth was okay. But if look at the positive side, my new growth was soft and manageable. I could have stretch my hair for a longer period, but I want to stop at 20 weeks post.

Relaxer | Update

IMG_0633_FotorWhile  I’m writing this post  I’m 7 weeks post relaxer – woow time flies by –. I always get a happy moment when it’s time to relax my hair. The biggest struggle that I have is after how many weeks am I going to relax. There has never been regular cycle for relaxing. This time I relaxed my hair after 22 weeks (5 months).

For relaxer treatment I used ORS no-lye formula in normal. I have been using this formula for years and it has never let me down!!

My hair really has different texture when it comes to new growth, so i try to be careful while relaxing. But I think I was too happy because my hair was sleek after the relaxer. Although I put some Almond Oil in the oil it felt like my hair was bone straight. – even my sister looked at me like girrrl did you bone straight your hair – I could definitely see and feel a difference between  a lye and a no-lye relaxer. A lye relaxer gives my hair more texture, but a no-lye relaxer is more friendly for me to use. I’m happy that i switch back to the no-lye formula.

What are my  G O A L S
I’m suffering from thin ends – ugh – In this coming cycle I’m going to concentrate on getting my ends even. I also want to relax my hair after 20 weeks. That means that the next relaxer will be in January .

2014.09.07 RELAXER

After 22 weeks post it was finally time to relax my hair. I told myself I wasn’t going to stretch for more than 20 weeks, but hey here I am. Don’t get me wrong I love stretching my hair and see my hair grow. But after a while I couldn’t deal with the thickness :(.

As always I used ORS to relax my hair, but I went back to the no-lye relaxer. I had some difficulties using the lye relaxer. I also I didn’t like the end results when I used the lye relaxer. Yes, with the lye relaxer I achieved more texture, but the relaxing process was a bit difficult for me. But now I’m back the no-lye relaxer and yes I’m happy.

Relaxer: April 5th ’14

1. 2014-04-05It was time to relax my hair. I said the last time I wouldn’t stretch my relaxer more than 16 week, but damn it man I stretched for 25 weeks. There is nothing wrong with stretching your relaxer for so long, but I wanted to minimize it to 16-20 week. The last time I relaxed my hair I was 31 weeks post… yup 31 weeks.

I decided to relax my hair because it wasn’t manageable for me. The struggle was real when I tried to style my hair.

The week before I did a protein treatment to prepare my hair for the relaxer.

It’s time for the creamy crack !!!

[1] I always prep my scalp for the relaxer. I part my hair in small section. Then I apply Vaseline on my scalp only. I grease my scalp because a Lye-relaxer is harsh on the scalp. Yup I said it!!  I’m also thinking of switching back to a No-Lye relaxer. I will tell you why in a different blog post. But yeah.. after greasing my scalp I apply the relaxer on my new growth only. When the relaxer is applied I smooth out the new growth with my fingers. I only use my fingers to smooth out the new growth.

I couldn’t take it anymore so i decided to texlax my hair at 31 weeks post. Wooow 31 weeks. The last time I told myself  that I wasn’t going to stretch that long, but for some strange reason I did it again.image

During my stretching I used some new products and I know  (for sure for sure in my African voice) that Elasta QP Olive oil & Mango butter Moisturizer helped a lot with soften my new growth. I’m so happy that I got this product in my life. Elasta QP is one of my fav from my hair products collection.
