Have a hair regimen to keep your relaxed hair healthy!

Taking care of you hair can be a task. Let me emphasize on the word CAN. In the beginning of my hair journey I did everything what I thought was needed, but over the years, I have found a hair regimen that works for me, my lifestyle &  hair.

a systematic plan especially designed to improve and maintain the health of your hair.

“Create a hair routine that your hair needs”

I spoke a little bit about having a hair regimen a.k.a. a hair routine that caters to your hair. There is no one way regimen when it comes to having & maintaining healthy hair, but you need a hair regimen.

Before I go in and share my hair regimen, I want to make it clear I’m not talking about hair products. A hair regimen is a routine based on treatments that you do for your hair.

“Have a hair routine”

Let’s dive in! What is my hair regimen?

My hair regimen is planned in a specific routine based on daily, weekly & monthly treatments. I like to be consistent with certain moisture or protein based treatments, that I know my hair needs. That’s why that some treatment will be more frequent than other treatments, but together brings the balance when it comes to having healthy hair.

[1] when I’m not wearing a protective hair style, I wash my hair every week. Washing my hair weekly is a must for my hair. Also conditioning my hair weekly is a must. So cleaning my scalp & hair followed up with a conditioner is an important treatment to maintain healthy hair.

When it comes to shampoo’s & conditioners I also plan out what type of product I use. It’s not every time that I use a moisturizing shampoo or conditioner. It’s also necessary to clarify or do a protein treatment.

[2] during the week I moisturize my hair daily or every other day. I like to moisturize my hair at night, so that the product has enough time to sink into my hair.

[3] to keep my length hair I will trim or dust my ends every 8 weeks. If your hair is “super” healthy, no split ends, you don’t need to trim every 8 weeks. Find out what works for you, but please don’t hold on to unhealthy ends for too long.

Now that we have the basic regimen in place, now you can continue with creating which treatment you are going to do.

Have a relaxed hair regimen to get healthy hair!

When I started my relaxed hair journey I didn’t know where to begin. So finding ladies on YouTube that shared their relaxed hair regimen was a blessing. My hair needed a solid hair routine to get my relaxed hair healthy again.

“What is a hair regimen?”

When ladies decide to take better care of their relaxed hair, the answer that I get after asking the question “what is your hair regimen” is always get the same response. Hair regimen? No I don’t have a routine.

What is a hair regimen?
Any set of rules about food and exercise that someone follows, especially in order to improve their health
-Cambridge

I laughing out lout when I was reading the definition, because I always use the analogy of working out. When looking at a regimen for the hair, the food can been seen as the hair products that you will use and the exercise the methods/treatments that you incorporate.

“Go set some rules”

A hair regimen is just that! Set of rules using specific hair products and applying specific methods to your hair to maintain the health of your relaxed hair. Now before I continue, I just want to say that there is no “one” right way to get your relaxed hair healthy. If you look at how many different exercises and diets there are, you know there is no one way to improve your health. With that being said, there are some basic steps that you can’t skip.

How to create a regimen?
To build up or maintain the health of your relaxed hair it’s good to have a solid routine. Like how often do you wash your hair or how often do you do a protein treatment. There are many ways to take care of your hair, but keep in mind that it doesn’t have to be that difficult.

Have a consistent hair routine! Know what your hair needs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

In my next post I will go more in dept about how to create a hair regimen. I will use my own hair regimen as an example to give a better understanding.

With care,
EEMS!
