Retouching your new growth at 20 weeks post relaxer

I have been waiting for this day. My new growth was ready for a touch up. Stretching for 20 weeks was enough, because my new growth needed to be laid.

Step 1 | protect the scalp
When I was done with detangling my hair and sectioned it in four parts, I based my scalp with DAX Vegetable Oils Pomade for a protecting layer. When I was done with my scalp I applied Dax to the length of my hair.

“Never apply relaxer on the length that has already been relaxed”

Step 2 | applying the relaxer
Because I texlax (under process) my hair, I first make the relaxer mixture ready by adding a light conditioner. Adding the conditioner slows down the relaxing process. In small sections I added the relaxer to my new growth and smoothed it out with my fingers. I missed the sleek look, so I went a little overboard, used more mixture than normal, with applying the relaxer to my new growth.

Also this time around the process of applying the relaxer and smoothing out my new growth was about 20 to 25 minutes instead of 15 minutes.

Step 3 | washing
Before shampooing my hair, I make sure to get rid of all the relaxer. In this step I really take my time, because having relaxer still in your hair causes breakage. After rinsing out the relaxer I did a quick protein treatment, to rebuild the strength of my hair. I used ApHogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor and left it on my hair for 15 minutes without heat.

When I was applying the conditioner to my hair I noticed that my left side had more breakage. I need to keep an eye on that, because it’s been like this for a while know.

“Rebuild the strength of your hair with a protein treatment”

After rinsing out the conditioner I shampooed my hair with ORS Olive Oil three times. Yes! I want to make sure that there are no traces of relaxer in my hair. After using a neutralizing shampoo 3 times, my hair could use some moisture. To bring back the moisture, I used tgin Moisture Rich Sulfate Free Shampoo.

After shampooing I wrapped my hair with a towel and let it sit for 15 minutes.

Step 4 | deep condition
For this step I used two conditioners ORS Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner & TRESemmé Moisture Rich Conditioner together, because I didn’t had enough of the ORS conditioner. The pack that comes with the relaxer box is not enough for my hair. To give my hair some extra nutrients I added Olive oil & Almond oil to the conditioner.

In sections of four I applied the conditioner to my hair and sat under a hooded dryer for 20 minutes.

Step 5 | styling
After rinsing out the conditioner I went over to blow-drying my hair. I didn’t want to air-dry my hair, because I was going outside and the weather here in the Netherlands is a bit chilly.

To prep my hair I used CHI Keratin Mist & Mizani Moisture Milk Leave-in spray for some protein & moisture.

What a great feeling to easily comb my hair. My hair feels good and my new growth is lying flat.

I’m thinking with my next stretch to go for 16 weeks instead of 20 weeks, because my hair grows in a healthy rate.

Let’s get In Control by using some products from the past

I think by now you know that my hair is in need for some serious help. In my previous post I mentioned that I’m dealing with breakage and having split ends. At the moment we are dealing with the Corona crisis, but I’m dealing with some serious hair crisis. Because I still plan on stretching my hair till 20 weeks, I have called for some remedies.

In the past I have used ApHogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor & Aunt Jackie’s in Control and both of this products are great for my hair. I haven’t used them in a while, but that is going to change.

Wash Day Routine | Relaxed Hair

Wash routine for relaxed hair | September 26!

In the weekend I was busy with some activities what led me to wash my hair during the week. Since I have relaxed my hair I have tried to leave my hair alone. Also I need to do a ‘hard’ protein treatment to strengthen my hair. This is a treatment that I need to do ASAP!

STEP 1 | PRE-POO
Because of my lack of moisturizing my hair felt dry, so I decided to pre-poo with Garnier Loving Blends Argan & Camellia oil Conditioner. I’m really falling in love with the Loving Blends line! I planned to pre-poo for 30 minutes, but I fell asleep so the pre-poo process was longer than two hours.

After rinsing out the conditioner my hair felt soft and had a nice shine to it.

STEP 2 | SHAMPOO
The goal is to finish certain product, because it’s time to clean up. To cleanse and moisturize my hair I used Creme of Nature Argan Oil Moisture & Shine Shampoo. In sections of four I shampooed my hair. To be honest my hair feels soft, but I definitely went overboard with my last relaxer.

STEP 3 | CONDITIONER
Because I just relaxed my hair, I’m planning to use more products from ApHogee. For the deep conditioning I used two products; ApHogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor. This product will help me to strengthen my hair. After rinsing out the conditioner I followed with Aphogee Balancing Moisturizer to bring my hair back to a right moisture balance.

STEP 4 | LEAVE-IN
I haven’t used Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream in a while, so I decided to use it. In small sections I applied the product to my hair and sealed with an oil mix.

After applying the leave-in I styled my hair in a high bun and let it air-dry.

I want to do a castor oil challenge to work on my thickness, because I want to get my ‘thick’ texture back.

The journey to healthy thick hair continues!

Healthy Journey,
E. Starr

Wash day | July 23!

Wash routine

relaxed hair aka texlaxed hair

Since my relaxer I noticed more hair falling out than normal – shedding & breakage – . Yeah shedding is normal, but this last week it was too much for my liking and the breakage was crazy. I know I need to step up with the protein treatment.

Pre-poo treatment

Before washing my hair I started with an oil treatment. I made a mix of Coconut oil with 1 tps. Olive oil. The oil was applied all over my hair and scalp. I love using an oil for my pre-poos. I did this treatment more than 2 hours.
